As a vampire, your existence is defined by the need to hunt and kill to survive. Others may deny that truth, but you understand that your continued survival hinges upon your ability to drink the blood. But no one said it had to be human blood. This is the loophole exploited by the Farmers, a predator that prefers to drink the blood of animals.
Farmers are vampires that struggle with the idea of doing harm to another human, and so chooses to feed from the beasts of the earth. Its easy to see them in life being either a pet person or a person who worked with animals. They may have been a hunter, familiar with survivalist skills and comfortable with killing. Perhaps they were a veterinarian, a rancher, or even the manager of a pet store. It's also possible that they were from a different category altogether; those people who don't particularly care for animals. In life, the vampire may have not been a "pet person," generally uninterested in cleaning up after and taking care of a pet. The Farmer gains a skill specialty in Animal Ken, showing their affinity with a specific type of animals. They may instead opt to have a specialty in Survival (Hunting).
As a Farmer, characters are given the option of the two disciplines most associated with animals: Animalism and Protean. Either of these make a fine choice, though for very different reasons. Should a vampire be concerned with feeding or tracking down the animals that may provide them with sustenance, they would do well to choose Animalism. In fact, there is a discipline that allows a vampire to continue gaining vitae from animals even when their Blood Potency may otherwise have grown beyond it. But what about the option of choosing Protean instead? This could be more ideal for that bearded outdoorsman that always felt more comfortable in nature than in the city; the one that always said using a rifle to hunt felt like cheating, because their prey didn't have the option of using any tools. This sounds like the person who may have always harbored a hidden desire to be one of the beasts, and Protean could provide them with a way to become just that.
Character Concepts:
The Human Rights Activist, who argues for others to adopt the practice of feeding from animals instead of humans; The Animal Man, who drifts further into the bestial, instinctual mentality (and away from Humanity) as time goes by; The Cat Lady, who has a willing herd living with her full-time; The Beast Master, who rules over a horde of animals that see to their every want or need.
Roleplaying Tips:
In playing a Farmer, it is most important for the player to identify the character's reasons for doing so. Many other vampires struggle with the idea of feeding from humans, but why is it that your character has chosen to turn to animals for vitae?
Really leaning into the "animal" aspect, consider that maybe your character has just gotten more comfortable around them, talking to them like friends... even if they intend to eat that friend later on.
Storytellers, what if your Farmer Player Character became feared as an apex predator among the local fauna? This could result in some difficulties in trying to lure animals out for feeding, as they share information about him in their own way.
Perhaps you have no particular love of animals, but see feeding from them as the lesser evil? That could turn this entire Predator-type on its head.
